Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)

This test is done to detect the presence of inflammation in the body. It measures the rate at which red blood cells settle in a vertical tube over a specific period. A faster-than-normal rate may indicate inflammation caused by infection, autoimmune disease, or other medical conditions, but it does not identify the exact cause on its own.
