DEXA

DEXA is commonly used to assess:

• Bone mineral density (BMD).
• Osteoporosis and fracture risk.
• Osteopenia (low bone mass).
• Body fat percentage and lean muscle mass.
• Visceral fat distribution (body composition scans).

• Fasting: Not required.
• Avoid calcium supplements for 24 hours before the scan if instructed.
• Wear comfortable clothing without metal.
• Inform provider if pregnant or recently had contrast imaging.
• Follow all radiology center instructions carefully.
