This test is done to detect and identify microorganisms present in a wound. It helps determine the cause of infection, such as bacteria or fungi, especially in wounds that are not healing properly. The culture also includes sensitivity testing to select the most effective treatment.

  • If a wound shows signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus).
  • If healing is delayed or the wound worsens.
  • If there is fever or spreading infection.
  • If a healthcare provider needs to guide antibiotic treatment.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Avoid applying antibiotics or antiseptic creams before sampling if instructed.
  • Do not clean the wound immediately before collection unless advised.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
