This test is done to detect and identify microorganisms such as bacteria or fungi present in vaginal discharge. It helps diagnose vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, or other bacterial infections, and determines the most effective antibiotic or antifungal treatment through sensitivity testing.

  • If there is abnormal vaginal discharge.
  • If there is itching, odor, or irritation.
  • If recurrent or persistent vaginal infections are suspected.
  • If a healthcare provider needs to identify the causative organism. 
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Avoid vaginal creams, douches, or antibiotics before sampling if instructed.
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for 24 hours before testing if possible.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
