This test is done to measure how much phosphate is eliminated in urine over a 24-hour period. Phosphate is essential for bone health, energy production, and cellular function. Abnormal excretion may indicate kidney disorders, parathyroid hormone imbalance, vitamin D abnormalities, or bone metabolism disorders.

  • If calcium or phosphate metabolism disorders are suspected.
  • If parathyroid gland dysfunction is being evaluated.
