Urine glucose (quantity)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure the total amount of glucose excreted in urine, usually over a timed collection. Normally, glucose is not present in urine. Its presence suggests elevated blood sugar levels that exceed kidney reabsorption capacity, commonly seen in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or renal glycosuria.

  • If diabetes is suspected or poorly controlled.
  • If monitoring glucose control over time.
  • If there are symptoms of hyperglycemia (excess thirst, urination).
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating kidney glucose handling.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • 24-hour urine collection may be required.
  • Maintain usual diet unless instructed otherwise.
  • Follow all collection instructions carefully.
