The Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), also called the Mantoux test, helps identify exposure to Tuberculosis by assessing the skin’s reaction to purified protein derivative (PPD).

  • If tuberculosis exposure is suspected.
  • During screening for latent tuberculosis infection.
  • Before employment, travel, or healthcare clearance.
  • When prolonged cough or TB symptoms occur.
  • As part of public health or occupational screening.
  • No fasting is required.
  • A small amount of tuberculin is injected under the skin of the forearm.
  • The test site must be examined 48–72 hours later.
  • Avoid scratching or covering the area tightly.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about prior TB vaccination or history.
