This test is done to measure thyroglobulin, a protein made by thyroid cells that is involved in thyroid hormone production. It is primarily used as a tumor marker to monitor patients after thyroid cancer treatment and to detect recurrence. It may also help assess residual thyroid tissue or thyroid inflammation in certain conditions.
