This test detects Mycoplasma genitalium (MG), a sexually transmitted bacterium that can cause urethritis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and other reproductive tract infections. It helps identify infection and guide appropriate treatment.

  • If symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection are present.
  • During evaluation of urethritis or cervicitis.
  • When experiencing painful urination or genital discharge.
  • If a sexual partner has been diagnosed with an STI.
  • As part of sexual health screening and STI investigations.
  • Urine sample or genital swab may be required.
