This test separates and measures different types of hemoglobin in blood. It helps diagnose inherited hemoglobin disorders including sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and other abnormal hemoglobin variants.

  • If anemia or abnormal red blood cell findings are present.
  • During evaluation of suspected sickle cell disease or thalassemia.
  • If there is a family history of hemoglobin disorders.
  • During premarital or prenatal screening.
  • As recommended during hematology investigations.
  • No fasting is usually required.
  • A blood sample will be collected from a vein.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about recent blood transfusions.
  • Share family history of blood disorders if applicable.
