EMA IgA/IgG (anti-endomysial antibodies)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to detect anti-endomysial antibodies, which target connective tissue surrounding muscle fibers. These antibodies are strongly associated with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten. EMA testing is highly specific and is often used to confirm diagnosis, especially when other celiac screening tests are positive.

  • If there are symptoms such as chronic diarrhea, bloating, or weight loss.
  • If celiac disease is suspected.
  • If other celiac-related tests (e.g., tTG antibodies) are positive.
  • If there is unexplained nutrient deficiency or malabsorption.
  • No fasting is required.
  • The patient should be consuming gluten before testing for accurate results.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
