This test is done to measure CYFRA 21-1, a fragment of cytokeratin 19 released by epithelial tumor cells. It is most commonly elevated in non-small cell lung cancer, especially squamous cell carcinoma. It is mainly used to monitor treatment response, detect recurrence, and assess disease progression rather than for screening.

  • If non-small cell lung cancer is diagnosed or suspected.
  • If monitoring response to lung cancer treatment.
  • If evaluating recurrence or progression.
  • If a healthcare provider is tracking tumor activity.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about ongoing cancer treatment.
