This test is done to measure the CK-MB isoenzyme, which is more specific to heart muscle compared to total creatine kinase. Elevated levels may indicate damage to the heart muscle, such as in myocardial infarction (heart attack) or other cardiac injury. It is sometimes used alongside other cardiac biomarkers for evaluation of chest pain.
