Chromogranin A (CgA)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure chromogranin A, a protein found in neuroendocrine cells that is released into the blood in certain tumors. Elevated levels are associated with neuroendocrine tumors such as carcinoid tumors and pheochromocytoma. It is mainly used to monitor disease activity, treatment response, and recurrence.

  • If a neuroendocrine tumor is suspected or diagnosed.
  • If monitoring response to treatment.
  • If evaluating disease progression or recurrence.
  • If a healthcare provider is assessing unexplained hormonal symptoms.
  • Fasting: 8–12 hours required.
  • Avoid proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for 1–2 weeks if medically possible (can affect results).
  • Avoid heavy exercise before testing.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
