Anti-adrenal cortex antibodies
This test is done to detect antibodies directed against the adrenal cortex, the part of the adrenal glands responsible for producing cortisol and aldosterone. Their presence suggests an autoimmune attack on the adrenal glands. It is most commonly associated with Addison’s disease and helps identify autoimmune adrenal insufficiency.
- If Addison’s disease is suspected (fatigue, weight loss, low blood pressure).
- If there are signs of adrenal insufficiency.
- If autoimmune endocrine disease is suspected.
- If a healthcare provider is evaluating unexplained cortisol deficiency.
