Red Cell Distribution Width – SD (RDW-SD)

This test is done to evaluate how much red blood cells vary in size. Increased RDW indicates greater variation (anisocytosis) and helps differentiate types of anemia, such as iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency, or mixed causes.

  • If anemia is suspected or diagnosed.

  • If evaluating nutritional deficiencies.
