This test measures the amount of free prostate-specific antigen (Free PSA) in the blood. It is often used together with total PSA testing to help evaluate prostate conditions and assess the likelihood of prostate cancer, especially when total PSA levels are borderline or elevated.

  • To help evaluate the risk of prostate cancer.
  • When experiencing urinary symptoms or prostate enlargement.
  • As recommended during prostate health monitoring.
  • To support follow-up after previous abnormal PSA results.
  • Avoid ejaculation for 24–48 hours before the test.
  • Avoid vigorous cycling or intense exercise before sample collection.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about prostate medications or recent procedures.
  • Blood sample collection is usually preferred before a digital rectal examination (DRE).
