Parathyroid Hormone (PTH)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure PTH, a hormone produced by the parathyroid glands that controls calcium and phosphorus balance in the body. It works with vitamin D to regulate bone health and mineral metabolism. Abnormal levels may indicate parathyroid disorders, calcium imbalance, kidney disease, or bone metabolism problems.

  • If calcium levels are too high or too low.
  • If parathyroid disorders are suspected.
  • If there are symptoms like bone pain, kidney stones, or muscle weakness.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating kidney or bone disease.
    • No fasting is usually required.
    • Inform your healthcare provider about calcium or vitamin D supplements.
    • Blood sample is typically taken in the morning.
    • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
