This test measures neuron-specific enolase (NSE), a tumor-associated marker that may be elevated in neuroendocrine tumors, small cell lung cancer, and certain neurological or neuroendocrine conditions.

  • During evaluation of neuroendocrine tumors.
  • To monitor treatment response in certain cancers.
  • During follow-up for cancer recurrence.
  • If small cell lung cancer is suspected.
  • As recommended during oncology investigations.
  • No fasting is usually required.
  • A blood sample will be collected from a vein.
  • Avoid excessive hemolysis during sample collection if possible.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about cancer history or ongoing treatments.
