Metanephrines, 24 Hrs Urine

This test measures metanephrines in urine collected over 24 hours to help evaluate adrenal gland function and detect conditions such as pheochromocytoma or other catecholamine-producing tumors. It may help investigate unexplained high blood pressure, palpitations, sweating, or severe headaches.

  • If experiencing episodes of high blood pressure.
  • When having unexplained headaches, sweating, or rapid heartbeat.
  • To investigate suspected adrenal gland tumors.
  • If previous blood or urine catecholamine tests were abnormal.
  • During follow-up monitoring of adrenal tumor treatment.
  • Collect all urine passed during a full 24-hour period exactly as instructed.
  • Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and strenuous exercise before and during collection if advised.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about all medications and supplements being used.
  • Certain foods such as bananas, chocolate, vanilla, and citrus fruits may need to be avoided before testing.
  • Keep the urine collection container refrigerated or stored as instructed by the laboratory.
