Hypersensitivity to mercaptans and thioethers
This test is done to assess immune reactivity or intolerance to mercaptans and thioethers, sulfur-containing compounds present in certain foods, medications, and environmental chemicals. Sensitivity to these compounds may be associated with non-specific symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, or respiratory reactions, and is evaluated in suspected chemical or food sensitivity conditions.
- If there are unexplained chronic symptoms such as fatigue or headaches.
- If food or chemical sensitivity is suspected.
- If symptoms worsen after exposure to certain foods or chemicals.
- If a healthcare provider is evaluating environmental intolerance.
