The HOMA index helps evaluate how effectively the body uses insulin and regulates blood sugar. It is commonly used in the assessment of metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes risk, and insulin resistance conditions.

  • If there is suspected insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome.
  • If there is obesity or difficulty controlling blood sugar.
  • If prediabetes or type 2 diabetes risk is being evaluated.
  • If a healthcare provider is monitoring metabolic health.
  • Fasting for 8–12 hours is required.
  • Only water is allowed during fasting.
