This test is done to detect active infection with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium associated with peptic ulcer disease and chronic gastritis. It identifies active infection by measuring the breakdown of urea in the stomach, making it more accurate than antibody testing for current infection.

  • Frequent bloating, nausea, or indigestion

  • Chronic or recurrent gastritis symptoms
  • Fasting for at least 6 hours before the test
