Growth hormone (GH)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure growth hormone levels produced by the pituitary gland. GH plays an important role in growth during childhood and also influences metabolism, muscle mass, and fat distribution in adults. Abnormal levels may indicate growth hormone deficiency, excess production, or pituitary gland disorders.

  • If there are signs of growth disorders in children.
  • If acromegaly is suspected in adults (enlarged hands, feet, facial features).
  • If unexplained fatigue, weakness, or changes in body composition occur.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating pituitary gland function.
  • Fasting may be required depending on the protocol.
  • GH levels vary throughout the day, so timing or stimulation/suppression testing may be needed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about medications affecting hormones.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
