This test is done to evaluate the activity of the glutathione reductase enzyme, which plays a key role in protecting cells from oxidative stress by maintaining glutathione in its active form. Reduced activity may indicate riboflavin (vitamin B2) deficiency or impaired antioxidant defense mechanisms in the body.
