CK (Creatine Kinase)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure creatine kinase, an enzyme released into the blood when muscle cells are damaged. Elevated levels may indicate muscle injury, strenuous exercise, muscle inflammation (myositis), or, in some cases, heart or neurological conditions. It is commonly used to evaluate muscle disorders and tissue damage.

  • If there is muscle pain, weakness, or injury.
  • If muscle disease or inflammation is suspected.
  • If there has been intense physical exertion or trauma.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating possible heart or muscle damage.
    • No fasting is usually required.
    • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours before testing if possible.
    • Inform your healthcare provider about medications affecting muscles (e.g., statins).
    • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
