This test is done to measure chloride, a major extracellular electrolyte that works with sodium and potassium to maintain fluid balance and acid-base (pH) balance in the body. Abnormal levels may indicate dehydration, kidney disease, metabolic disorders, or acid-base imbalances.

  • If there are signs of dehydration or fluid imbalance.
