Candida overgrowth can cause vulvovaginal candidiasis (yeast infection), leading to itching, irritation, redness, and abnormal discharge. The culture confirms the infection and may help identify the specific Candida species to guide effective antifungal treatment, especially in recurrent or resistant cases.

  • If there is vaginal itching or irritation.
  • If there is thick, white, “cottage cheese” discharge.
  • If recurrent yeast infections are suspected.
  • If symptoms do not improve with standard treatment.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Avoid vaginal creams, suppositories, or antifungal medications before testing if instructed.
