This test is done to measure CA 72-4, a glycoprotein that can be elevated in gastric (stomach) cancer and sometimes in other gastrointestinal or ovarian malignancies. It is mainly used to monitor treatment response, detect recurrence, and help assess disease progression rather than for primary screening.

  • If gastric (stomach) cancer is diagnosed or suspected.
  • If monitoring response to cancer treatment.
  • If evaluating possible recurrence or progression.
  • If a healthcare provider is following gastrointestinal tumors.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about ongoing cancer treatment or liver disease.
