This test is done to measure tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase 5b (TRAP-5B), an enzyme produced by osteoclasts during bone breakdown. It reflects bone resorption activity and is used in the evaluation of bone tumors, metastatic bone disease, osteoporosis, and other conditions with increased bone turnover.

  • If bone tumors or bone metastases are suspected.
  • If monitoring osteoporosis or bone loss disorders.
