This test identifies beta-2 transferrin, a protein highly specific to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It helps confirm or rule out CSF leakage from the nose or ear after trauma or surgery.

  • If clear nasal or ear fluid leakage is present.
  • After head trauma or skull fractures.
  • Following neurosurgery or ENT surgery.
  • When CSF leak is suspected.
  • During evaluation of unexplained rhinorrhea.
  • Fresh nasal fluid sample is required.
  • Serum sample may also be collected for comparison.
  • Avoid contamination with blood or mucus if possible.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about recent trauma or surgery.
  • Follow strict collection instructions carefully.
