Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure the level of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which is produced by the pituitary gland and stimulates the adrenal glands to produce cortisol. It helps evaluate adrenal and pituitary function and is used in diagnosing conditions such as adrenal insufficiency, Cushing syndrome, or pituitary disorders.

  • If Cushing syndrome is suspected (weight gain, high blood pressure, skin changes).
  • If there are unexplained cortisol abnormalities.
  • If a healthcare provider is assessing pituitary or adrenal gland function.
  • No fasting is usually required (follow lab instructions if combined with cortisol testing).
  • Sample is often taken in the early morning when ACTH levels are highest.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about steroid medications.
