This test is done to detect antibodies directed against acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction. These antibodies interfere with nerve-to-muscle communication and are strongly associated with myasthenia gravis. It helps support diagnosis of this autoimmune neuromuscular disorder and may assist in evaluating disease severity and subtype.
