This test is done to measure copper excretion in urine collected over 24 hours after administration of D-penicillamine, a chelating agent. It helps evaluate total body copper accumulation and is primarily used in diagnosing Wilson’s disease, a genetic disorder causing abnormal copper metabolism and liver or neurological damage.

  • If Wilson’s disease is suspected.
  • If there are unexplained liver disease or neurological symptoms.

  • Fasting: Not required.
