This test is done to measure PTH, a hormone produced by the parathyroid glands that controls calcium and phosphorus balance in the body. It works with vitamin D to regulate bone health and mineral metabolism. Abnormal levels may indicate parathyroid disorders, calcium imbalance, kidney disease, or bone metabolism problems.
- No fasting is usually required.
- Inform your healthcare provider about calcium or vitamin D supplements.
- Blood sample is typically taken in the morning.
