Lab Assurances
This test is done to measure osteocalcin, a protein secreted by osteoblasts during bone formation. It reflects bone turnover and is useful in evaluating metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis, monitoring bone formation activity, and assessing response to osteoporosis treatment.
- Fasting: Not required.
- No special preparation is usually needed.
- Morning sampling may be preferred (diurnal variation).
- Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
