This test is used for cardiovascular risk screening, especially if you have risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, or a family history of early heart disease.

Typically, fasting for 9 to 12 hours before the blood draw is required. You should only consume water during this fasting period. Avoid high-fat meals and alcohol for 24 hours prior to the test.
