Urine Protein (24 hours)

This test is done to measure the total amount of protein lost in urine over a 24-hour period. Normally, only very small amounts of protein are excreted. Increased levels may indicate kidney damage from conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, glomerular disease, or other renal disorders.

  • If kidney disease is suspected or being monitored.
  • If there is protein detected in routine urine testing.
  • If diabetes or hypertension is present.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating unexplained swelling or kidney function.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • 24-hour urine collection is required.
  • Maintain usual diet unless instructed otherwise.
