This test analyzes a sample of urethral discharge to help identify bacterial infections, sexually transmitted infections, and inflammation affecting the urethra. It supports diagnosis when symptoms such as discharge, burning, or irritation are present.

  • If experiencing urethral discharge or irritation.
  • When pain or burning during urination occurs.
  • If a sexually transmitted infection is suspected.
  • After exposure to a partner with a known infection.
  • During evaluation of urinary or genital symptoms.
  • Avoid urinating for at least 1–2 hours before sample collection.
  • Avoid using topical creams or antiseptics in the genital area before the test.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about recent antibiotic use.
  • Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours before sample collection if instructed.
  • Follow all clinic instructions regarding specimen collection timing.
