TRAK (TSH receptor antibodies)

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to detect antibodies that target the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) receptor. These antibodies can stimulate or block thyroid activity. Elevated levels are most commonly associated with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition that causes hyperthyroidism. It is also useful in monitoring disease activity and assessing risk of thyroid dysfunction.

  • If symptoms of hyperthyroidism are present (weight loss, rapid heartbeat, anxiety).
  • If Graves’ disease is suspected.
  • If thyroid function tests are abnormal and autoimmune cause is needed.
  • If a healthcare provider is monitoring known Graves’ disease.
  • No fasting is required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about thyroid medications or immune treatments.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
