Total and free testosterone
This test is done to evaluate testosterone levels in two forms: total testosterone (bound and unbound hormone) and free testosterone (biologically active hormone). It helps assess androgen status more accurately than total testosterone alone. It is used in diagnosing hormonal imbalances, reproductive disorders, and conditions such as hypogonadism or hyperandrogenism.
- If there are symptoms of low testosterone such as fatigue, low libido, or reduced muscle mass.
- If there are signs of excess androgens such as acne or excessive hair growth.
- If infertility or reproductive hormone imbalance is suspected.
- If a healthcare provider is evaluating endocrine disorders.
