It is most commonly used to diagnose pinworm (Enterobius vermicularis) infection, where eggs are deposited around the anus, especially at night. It helps confirm intestinal parasitic infection when stool tests may be negative.

  • If there is anal itching, especially at night.
  • If pinworm infection is suspected.
  • If there is household or close-contact spread of parasites.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating intestinal parasitic infection.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Do not bathe or wash the anal area before sample collection (preferably early morning).
  • Avoid applying creams or ointments before testing.
