Quantiferon TB

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to detect infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis by measuring interferon-gamma released by T-cells in response to TB-specific antigens. It is mainly used to identify latent tuberculosis infection and may also support evaluation of active TB in combination with clinical findings and imaging. It is preferred over skin testing in some cases due to higher specificity.

  • If screening for latent tuberculosis infection is required.
  • If there has been close contact with a TB-infected person.
  • If pre-employment or pre-treatment screening (e.g., immunosuppressive therapy) is needed.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating possible tuberculosis exposure.
  • No fasting is required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Ideally avoid testing during acute severe illness if possible.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
