It confirms the presence and type of fungal organism affecting the nail, such as dermatophytes, yeasts, or molds. The results help guide targeted antifungal therapy and distinguish fungal infection from other nail disorders.

  • If nails are thickened, discolored, or brittle.
  • If fungal nail infection is suspected.
  • If topical or oral antifungal treatment is being considered.
  • If previous treatment for nail infection has failed.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • Do not apply antifungal creams or nail polish for 7 days before testing.
  • Avoid trimming or cleaning the nail before sample collection unless instructed.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
