This test is done to measure human epididymis protein 4 (HE-4), a biomarker associated with ovarian epithelial cancer. When combined with CA-125, it is used to calculate the ROMA (Risk of Ovarian Malignancy Algorithm) score, which helps estimate the likelihood of ovarian cancer in women with pelvic masses.

  • If an ovarian mass is detected.
  • If assessing risk of ovarian cancer.
  • If evaluating pelvic symptoms or abnormal imaging findings.
  • If a healthcare provider is calculating ROMA score with CA-125.
  • Fasting: Not required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
