This test uses Dermatophyte Test Medium (DTM) to detect dermatophyte fungi responsible for infections of the skin, scalp, hair, or nails. It helps confirm fungal infection and supports appropriate antifungal treatment decisions.

  • If ringworm or fungal skin infection is suspected
  • During persistent scalp, nail, or skin lesions
  • If itching, scaling, or hair loss occurs
  • When antifungal treatment is not effective
  • As recommended during dermatologic evaluation
  • Avoid antifungal creams, powders, or medications before collection if instructed
  • Skin scrapings, hair, or nail samples may be collected
  • Keep affected area clean and dry before sampling
  • Inform healthcare provider about current antifungal treatment
  • Follow all specimen collection instructions carefully
