This test is done to detect M2 pyruvate kinase (M2-PK), an enzyme released by rapidly dividing tumor cells in the intestine. Elevated levels may be associated with colorectal cancer or advanced adenomas. It is used as a non-invasive screening tool to help identify individuals who may need further diagnostic evaluation such as colonoscopy.
