Erythropoietin

Accredited Facility E-report Qualified Specialists

This test is done to measure erythropoietin, a hormone that regulates red blood cell production. It is mainly produced by the kidneys in response to low oxygen levels. Abnormal levels may indicate kidney disease, anemia, or bone marrow disorders, and it helps determine the cause of abnormal red blood cell counts.

  • If there is unexplained anemia or low hemoglobin levels.
  • If there is excessive red blood cell production (polycythemia).
  • If kidney disease is suspected.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating bone marrow or blood disorders.
  • No fasting is required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
  • Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, especially those affecting blood production.
  • Follow any instructions provided by the laboratory or healthcare provider.
