This test is done to detect a group of autoantibodies directed against specific nuclear proteins, including SSA/Ro, SSB/La, RNP, Sm, Scl-70, and others depending on the panel. It is used to help diagnose and differentiate autoimmune connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, mixed connective tissue disease, and systemic sclerosis.

  • If ANA test is positive and further evaluation is needed.
  • If autoimmune connective tissue disease is suspected.
  • If there are symptoms such as joint pain, dry eyes, or skin changes.
  • If a healthcare provider is evaluating systemic autoimmune disease.
  • No fasting is required.
  • No special preparation is usually needed.
