The direct Coomb’s test, also called the direct antiglobulin test (DAT), detects antibodies or complement proteins attached to red blood cells. It helps assess immune-related red blood cell destruction.

  • If autoimmune hemolytic anemia is suspected.
  • During evaluation of unexplained anemia or jaundice.
  • When transfusion reactions are suspected.
  • During assessment of hemolytic disease.
  • As part of hematology investigations.
  • No fasting is usually required.
  • A blood sample will be collected from a vein.
  • Inform the healthcare provider about recent transfusions or medications.
  • Share previous hematology test results if available.
  • Follow all laboratory instructions before sample collection.
